NOTICE OF THE BOARD
Subject: Notice Pursuant to Section 5 of the Time Limits in Respect of Matters Before the Copyright Board Regulations
December 21, 2021
Pursuant to Section 5 of the Time Limits in Respect of Matters Before the Copyright Board Regulations (SOR/2020-264) , the Board hereby notifies the collective societies and any person or entity having filed an objection to any of the following proposed tariffs published by the Board on November 3, 2021, that a hearing will be held in respect of these proposed tariffs:
SOCAN Tariff 1.C – Radio - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 2.D – Television - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 3.B – Cabarets, Cafes, Clubs, Cocktail Bars, Dining Rooms, Lounges, Restaurants, Roadhouses, Taverns, and Similar Establishments - Recorded Music Accompanying Live Entertainment (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 8 – Receptions, Conventions, Assemblies and Fashion Shows (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 18 – Recorded Music for Dancing (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 19 – Physical Exercises and Dance Instruction (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 20 – Karaoke Bars and Similar Establishments (2023-2025)
SOCAN Tariff 26 – Pay Audio and Ancillary Services (2023-2025)
Re:Sound Tariff 2 – Pay Audio Services (2023-2027)
Re:Sound Tariff 3.A – Background Music Suppliers (2023-2026)
Re:Sound Tariff 3.B – Background Music (2023-2026)

The Board will provide, in due time, further direction for the examination of each of these proposed tariffs, including whether related hearings will be oral or written, or both.
Please note that the Board will publish, in January 2022, fourteen additional proposed tariffs filed by SOCAN for the years 2023-2025. Pursuant to Order CB-CDA 2021-053, SOCAN was asked to provide a Notice of Grounds for Proposed Tariff for each proposed tariff, which will be published by the Board at the same time as the proposed tariffs. Users that wish to file an objection to any of the proposed tariffs will be able to do so within the 30-day period following their publication. Additionally, pursuant to Directive CB-CDA 2021-058, objectors will be required to file a Notice of Grounds for Objection at latest 45 days after the publication of the proposed tariffs. The Board will issue a separate notice pursuant to Section 5 of the Time Limits in Respect of Matters Before the Copyright Board Regulations (SOR/2020-264) in respect of these proposed tariffs.
