This letter constitutes the statement of objections of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) in respect of the statement of the following proposed royalties filed by SOCAN/SODRAC for the reproduction of musical works, in Canada, for the year 2020 and 2021:
a. Tariff 22.A.R – Reproduction of Musical Works Embedded in Music Videos for Transmission by a Service (2020) b. Tariff 22.D.1.R – Reproduction of Musical Works Embedded in Audiovisual Works for Transmission by a Service (2020) c. Tariff 2.A.R – Reproduction of Musical Works by Commercial Television Stations (2020-2021
This statement of proposed royalties was published in the Supplement to the Canada Gazette, Part 1 on May 25, 2019.
2. The CAB objects to the proposals, and specifically the proposed terms and rates of these tariffs on the basis that they are excessive and unreasonable. The CAB submits that the Board should not approve the tariffs as filed.
3. The CAB reserves the right to present evidence and raise issues in support of these and other objections to the Copyright Board in any proceeding relating to the Proposed Tariffs.
